Sectional Comb Snuff Box

$3,250.00

This is a very early piece made circa 1830s in Switzerland by the renowned maker "F. Alibert" as notated on the original tune lable on the inside of the lid. The case is constructed from Tortoise-shell with Silver inlays, done in the "portmanteau" trunk style. Snuff boxes of this period were carved out of solid pieces of material, either Horn or tortoisehell resulting in cases without joints of any kind. (Excluding the Lid). This includes the movement cover where the material has been shaved thin enough to become translucent. Warps and cracks are inherant qualities to these pieces and certainly an excellent indication of authenticity.

The two songs listed on the tune lable are:
1. Bright be thy
2. The Moscow Bells

The Sectional comb consists of 13 sections of 5 teeth and 1 section of 4 teeth. The arrangements and tone are superb. Completely restored to Museum Quality.

Measurements: "3 3/4 x "2 1/4 x "1 1/4
