Symphonion Disc Music Box

The Disc Music Box technology which originated in Germany came about around 1889. Newly discovered mass production techniques were utilized to manufacture these music boxes in large number. Their advantage over the majority of popular Swiss made Cylinder music boxes at that time was that the owner of the Disc Music Box could form a personalized Library of favorite Songs. The three most popular Disc Music Box manufacturers were Polyphon and Symphonion from Germany and Regina from the USA.

This beautiful Music Box was made by the Symphonion Company from Germany and was made around 1895. The movement features the diametrically opposed duplex comb system exclusive to Symphonion. The Two combs are perfect and create a tonal quality and arrangements which are Superb. The outstanding Case is made from Walnut veneers. The Lid features a raised panel with four pieces of "mirrored" Burl Walnut veneer creating an absolutely beautiful design. We have had many Disc music boxes thru-out the years, but the condition of this particular Symphonion is truly amazing and might be about the nicest example we've had in our collection for this size and maker ever! This piece just underwent a complete movement restoration and it looks and works perfectly.
